You’re among the very first to hear Funny Girl (11th Anniversary Edition), until October 14th, Funny Girl 11th Anniversary Edition will remain released ONLY on our BandCamp, YouTube, and on this page.
Originally released in 2015, “Funny Girl” signaled Dutch Holly’s transformation from a five-piece indie rock band into the electronic duo it remains today. After eleven years of performing the song live, we’ve created an entirely new recording that captures what Funny Girl has become onstage.
Until Persephone’s Picnic drops on October 14th, you will only be able to hear Funny Girl (11th Anniversary Edition) here on DutchHolly.com, our BandCamp and our official YouTube channel.
Eleven years of evolution
“Funny Girl is about finding the strength to stay present and not abandon yourself, even when everything tells you to give up. When I first recorded it in 2015, I was at the beginning of that journey. Now, I sing it with a perspective that only lived experience can give.”
— Jen Juniper
“Funny Girl” originally appeared as the opening track of our 2015 Outlaw EP—the first recording we released after re-imagining Dutch Holly as a duo rather than a band.
Hear the Original 2015 Version
Over years of performing it in clubs, galleries, festivals, and independent art spaces, the song continued to change. Synth flourishes, guitar loops, vocal samples, and new rhythmic details gradually became part of its identity.
Rather than remix and remaster the original, we’ve created an entirely new recording that reflects eleven years of artistic growth and countless live performances.
Then & Now
Below, you can compare two live performances of Funny Girl recorded nearly a decade apart. We didn’t set out to rewrite the song—only to follow where eleven years of rehearsing, performing, and living had taken it.
Listen. Watch. Compare.
This is one of the earliest live recordings of the newly reinvented looping duo, Dutch Holly, playing Funny Girl live at Firecreek Coffee in Flagstaff AZ in the winter of 2014 just before we recorded Funny Girl as track 1 of the Outlaw EP (released July 2015).
Here’s a performance of Funny Girl at Miami Artworks Courtyard in Miami Arizona in the fall of 2024, nearly 10 years after the looping performance at Firecreek. This is pretty close to the version that we based the 11th Anniversary Edition on.
From Outlaw to Persephone’s Picnic
This new version of “Funny Girl” offers listeners a preview of the creative philosophy behind our forthcoming album, Persephone’s Picnic. Alongside new material, the album includes newly recorded versions of songs that have continued to evolve through years of performing them live.
“Funny Girl (11th Anniversary Edition)” will remain exclusive to DutchHolly.com, Bandcamp, and YouTube until the album arrives on October 14.
